I also included descriptions of Phonological Processes presented by Dr. Hodson. I took a 3 hour ASHA Learning Pass webinar with Dr. Barbara Hodson and the Cycles Approach- Evaluaating & Enhancing Children’s Phonological Skills. It was excellent. I highly recommend everyone taking this course! She presented strategies that I love to use but I don’t rigidly follow the Cycles Approach - I take parts that help my students. Here are some helpful tips from her Beginner Primary Target 1 Section I love: 1. Importance of Listening - Use an AMPLIFIER- I started using my Super Duper phone immediately after this webinar - have had it for many years and had to dig it up! It’s important for students to get auditory feedback. 2. Teach multisyllable words - she suggests compound words - I just created several compound word activities unknowingly 3. Teach phonological awareness - I do this as a warm up in almost all my speech sessions Dr. Hodson shared so much more than I am sharing here - She reviews every process and provides a plan of action. I 4. Active Participation - I just created the Action Cues Picture Set - there is an action for each sound 5. Target consistent errors 6. Targets must be stimulable 7. Choose meaningful words 8. VC - for FCD - start with voiceless stops 9. CV - ICD - start with voiceless and nasals
