I just added a NEW STUDENT to my caseload who is only about 20% intelligible! He’s so smart and no hearing issues! I have only seen him twice. We are still in the “establishing rapport” stage so we are playing right now while I write down everything he says. He has so many atypical patterns!! I did throw in 2 activities to start working on Sentence Building and Rate. We made a PACING BRACELET together. (See pic below) Child strung foam beads on a pipe cleaner. This is one of my go-to activities when starting with a little one and it has been one of the best “pacing type” boards I have created. I showed mom how to move a bead for every word she models and then child moves the beads. (It also worked really well with a dysfluent preschooler. Mom kept it in her pocketbook and used it frequently during modeling. ) Then we did FUN with VERBS lite app by Hamagucci (there is also a full version. ) Next session I want to use my Action Task Cards with AAC Symbols and pointer.
TWO OTHER FREEBIES ARE: Haunted House & Kitchen Safety - links are below
Pics below are also linked to new product including: Don’t Do It Ghost (awesome for lip rounding, velar, don’t), Room On The Broom Book Companion, KGH Carrier Phrases. When on TPT , click on View Preview and you will see everything included!
Here is one other special link by Stacy Crouse. She has put together this amazing list of PUMPKIN IDEAS. It’s a Post from 2020 but still awesome!
CONNECT WITH PARENTS TO ENSURE CARRY OVER AT HOME - give ideas e.g. scavenger hunt in the house - put words on post-its - kids can draw pics too Using carrier phrases
KNOWLEDGE OF PERFORMANCE. This is the first place I start with any student working on phonemes. Knowledge of Performance is showing the student how a sound is made. I take out my mini mouth puppet from SuperDuper Publications and show student how the sound is made. I will show them my mouth and then use Speech Tutor Pro app ( big sale about twice a year) to watch a video with the movement of the tongue lips, KNOWLEDGE OF RESULTS - provide feedback!
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you like any of these ideas or if you have additional ideas that I can post in the next blog!
