Action Picture Sentence Game
How To Play Action Picture Sentence Game- This action game set has been a valuable component of my speech tool kit since 1976. In 2013, Action Pictures was one of the first products I uploaded to TPT. It has been recently updated and now called Action Pictures for Sentence Building Sample and 78 Action Verb Photo Cards. I have found these action cards very helpful for students first learning words, ESL preschoolers and older students with limited verbal skills and utilizing a voice activated device. These are the same pictures in the 78 Sentences set and is an awesome follow-up activity for more independent practice.
1.Use as a digital activity in PowerPoint or Google Slide. All pictures are moveable except Wh questions and color-coded squares. First make the sentence which goes with the action picture. Then make silly sentences. Score 1 point for the real sentence and 2 points for the silly sentences. Add up points for each slide. You can also create your own spinner at online-stopwatch .
2. Use as a printable activity. Print out the color-coded template. Full set of cards organized by color code. Print out each slide and cut out the color-coded cards – agent, action, description, object, location Spin the Wh question spinner and find the color-coded card. If you land on WILD you can pick any question you want. Score 1 point for the real sentence and 2 points for the silly sentences. Add up points for each slide
3 Have students tell you the sentences they made. For students who can read and write – have them write a sentence on the board.
4..You can also play a game with 1 die. Put all the action pictures in a basket. Roll a die and pick that many action pictures. Have student sequence a story using the number of actions they rolled on the die.
5. Past tense actions – Use the phrase “Today ____________, yesterday (with a hand motion over shoulder) __” You can also describe the action, e.g. The girl is baking cookies. She is all done. The girl _____ the cookies.
